Why Is Goth Dying In The UK?

I have entitled this post Why Is Goth Dying In The UK?  This seems to be happening a lot now, in the UK.  I supposse I am still some sort of outsider to todays Goth scene.  But I have always adored this dark subculture.  Goth doesn't seem to be too powerful at this moment.  Maybe it is the imaginary recession.  I pour a lot of my money into the Goth scene today.  I also pour a lot of my time and resources, into this dark subculture of today.  But nothing seems to be happening.  Yet I adore Goths in all their splendor garments etc.

Finding Gothic friends has become almost non-existent.  Maybe I live in a very awkward place.  Shropshire isn't all Gothic shops etc.  I need to get on a bus or a train, and go to the bigger cities, where all the action is taking place.  And when you are an outsider.  Then life meeting others becomes a doddle.  You certainly feel as if you are stuck in no man's land.  The magnum opus of Gothic life seems to be shrinking, at an alarming rate.  Every week there are more places closing on the high street.  And I'm not talking about the main shops etc.

Someone seems to be failing to deliver the goods.  Even magazines that are Gothic centred have become impossible to find.  Unscene Magazine seems to be stuck on Issue 9.  And Dominion Mag has vannished from the pages of Terrorizer magazine.  Maybe that is a blessing in itself.  Who wants Goth in a rock magazine?  It would be far better for Dominion Mag to exist, on its own merits.  Even DIY fanzines have all but vannished now.  I used to love buying Gothic Times by Hazel.  I always looked forward to the moment, when I recieved my copy to read at my own leisure, with a cup of tea.

So where do we all start searching for Goth now?  The Internet made a promise to deliver a decent first class service.  But no such luck.  And why don't Gothic shops stock bigger + sizes in clothing, such as t-shirts etc?  Everything has changed too fast, beyond recognition.  Is Goth secretly being over-dominated by religion and christianity?

  1. Most of Goth is bullshit. Always has been. You have to really filter through all the garbage to find the hidden gems. That goes for ANYTHING Gothic, not just clothes. You can't always directly search for Goth and find something. You just have to get lucky, really. I used to always like Hot Topic, but then it changed, alienating its original demographic of consumers. Some Goths don't like Hot Topic -- well, screw them, I did, before it changed. Though even when Hot Topic was obviously Gothic, I still only liked 1% of the stuff they sold. You'd think the Internet would be better, but most of the stuff on non-Tripp websites just aren't my taste. They don't have enough spikes and chains, and truly interesting things that would appeal to me. I happen to like Tripp pants and the so-called "mall goth" or 90s goth style. I generally just stick to the sites that sell Tripp and then I get my accessories when and where I can find them. I like Bloody Mary makeup and I always wear their white powder, black lipstick, and lots of stuff on my eyes and down my cheeks. Thankfully a lot of what I liked at Hot Topic can also be found at the specific brand names' individual stores online.
